Before knowing what digital animation or CG was, I knew that I had a very eclectic set of talents. I was one of those kids who had to go outside when they got grounded, otherwise, I would stay inside and either program (gwbasic), sysop my BBS, or draw. So it was pretty much computer and art or computer-art from the start. In high school I had the opportunity to diversify with acting, photography, sculpting and painting. To further satisfy my need to create, I began building houses part-time while attending college prerequisites for Civil Engineering. In retrospect, I realize I have been training to be a 3D artist my entire life. A month after discovering 3D I was applying to art college and began working for a company doing sales in exchange for Studio Max training. Soon I was working with the company doing architectural and product visualization contracts to subsidize my need for a faster computer. This is where it becomes a blur of many sleepless nights learing the millions of things one needs to know to be a 3D artist. After working with Studio Max for three years I made a quick jump into Maya and am now very fluent in both. Along with learning the software, I elected to balance my education by taking figure drawing and sculpting classes in the illustration and fine arts departments of my college. To further build my traditional skills, I moved to L.A. to attend figure drawing and storyboarding classes at the Associates in Art, located in Sherman Oaks, CA. During my time in L.A. I had the opportunity to work as a character animator on a Fox Television Pilot by Tigar Hare Studios. |
